Title: Unforeseen Riot
Author: Karen Renee
Series: A Riot MC Novel #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Romantic Suspense
Mallory Pierce, a thirty-one-year-old widow, has been hiding from life
after losing her husband and son to a drunk driving accident a year and a half
ago. Friends tried to get Mallory to get back into the swing of things; but it
isn’t until she meets Riot MC biker, Cal Robertson, when Mallory begins to live
again. The chemistry between Mallory and
Cal is volatile from the beginning, and when Cal offers her a ride on his
motorcycle, Mallory cannot refuse. Soon
after meeting Cal, Mallory’s home is burglarized. Police attribute it to teenage gang activity,
but Cal Robertson finds out about the home invasion and insists on helping
Mallory put the pieces back together.
Mallory agrees to a date with Cal, which goes awry when Cal must take
Mallory to his club’s compound so he can fulfill his duty as the club’s
Sergeant at Arms. Even though Mallory is
physically attracted to Cal, she knows she doesn’t fit in with his biker
lifestyle.
Mallory’s relationship with Cal has
a rough start, but the two of them cannot stay away from one another. After an attempt by a rival MC to abduct
Mallory she finds herself all but living with Cal. There are many things she doesn’t understand
about his lifestyle and his world, but she understands she’s quickly developing
feelings for this over-protective alpha male.
Cal “Callous” Robertson has been a
patched member of the Riot MC for the past nineteen years, and the
Sergeant-at-Arms for the last eight.
He’s fascinated by the spunky brunette, Mallory Pierce, who is one of
the only women to push his buttons. He
doesn’t believe the police explanation of teenagers being behind the burglary,
mainly because after eleven years in the foster care system he knows about
being a troubled teen. He thinks
Mallory’s mother-in-law is behind the break-in, but at such an early point in
their relationship Cal keeps that to himself.
When a member of a rival MC shows interest in Mallory, Cal can no longer
deny his attraction to her. Cal is
determined to protect Mallory, and get to know her better along the way. The more he finds out, the more he wants her
in his life. Permanently. When Mallory
is abducted from Bike Week right under Cal’s nose, he finds he cannot live
without this spitfire woman in his life, and he’ll do whatever he has to in
order to get her back.

(4 Stars)
When widowed Mallory tries to get out of a trivia night, a new voice in the background proceeds to goad her into coming out. When Mallory arrives with all intent to tear into someone, she realizes quickly that Cal isn't someone she really wants to be around, well she does but the guilt she feels makes her feel like she shouldn't. After a surprise ride on the back of his bike, Mallory just knows she needs to get away. But Cal will not let her distance herself, and starts to push his way into her life. Just when Cal starts to push, is when things in Mallory's life start to get crazy. Can Cal keep Mallory safe from the trouble that she has somehow gotten in the middle of?
OK, soooo.... I am actually struggling on what to write. This was an ok read... I can even go as far as a good read. I didn't like Cal at all, where he was supposed to be coming off as alpha, it made him come off more as a butthead leaning towards abusive controlling d-bag. I get that there was time, almost two years, between losing her child and husband, but a child is not an easy loss, and you would think that she would have actually talked about him, instead it was more about the loss of her husband and the guilt of moving on, which yes is natural but a child... IDK, I'm ranting now so I'll drop it. The good about this story, is that I wanted to keep reading to see how it all panned out. It wasn't tedious to read, rather enjoyable, but the characters and some questionable MC practices were a bit off to me, but of course not all MC's behave the same way. I did want more details for some bits, but then at other times there was way too much detail; I don't care what brand they wore, but for the first sexy time I had to go back and read cuz I didn't think Cal came... he just grunted, so I'm assuming he did. Despite all my mad ranting and raving I gave this 4 stars, I think the author has promise so I will keep up with her to see how she does.
Karen Renee has wanted to be a writer
since she was eight years old, but it’s taken the last twenty years for her to
amass enough courage and overall life experience to bring that dream to life.
Some of those life experiences came from the wonderful world of advertising,
banking, and local television media research. She is a proud wife and mother,
and a Jacksonville native. When she’s not at the soccer field or cooking, you
can find her at her local library, the grocery store, in her car jamming out to
some tunes, or hibernating while she writes and/or reads books.
